Shogunate official Yukaku
The first shogunate-approved red-light district was founded today in Sunpu, Shizuoka Prefecture. It is said that Ieyasu ...
Tokugawa was created when the Sunbu Castle was built to work for veterans, carpenters, and merchants gathered from all over the country. In 1612, the northern wetland of Tokyo Ningyocho was created and a vast land of 15,000 tsubo was opened as a brothel. At that time, it was called Ashihara because it was a field of reeds, but it was changed to Yoshiwara with good luck. However, in 1656, the Shogunate ordered relocation to Nihonbashi, behind Asakusa, due to expansion of the Edo city area and ethical problems. However, because Yoshiwara was burnt down by the great fire of the next year, all the stores were moved to a new place of Shinyoshiwara. Since then, the prostitution law was enforced in 1957, and business continued for about 300 years until the special restaurant called the red line was abolished the following year.
