Nakamise, which is bustling as the Omotesando of Sensoji Temple, is about 250m between Kaminarimon and Hozomon. One of...

the oldest shopping streets in Japan, about 80 shops lined on both sides of the approach to the red-lined shops sell local specialties, traditional crafts, and miscellaneous goods will delight your eyes. As the number of worshipers increased around 1685 in the early Edo period, Sensoji Temple is said to be the beginning of Nakamise in that it gave nearby residents permission to open a store on the approach to the shrine instead of imposing cleaning on the precincts. Because it is located between Asakusa Hirokoji and Asakusa Kannon-do, it is called Nakamise, a middle store. During the Meiji era, the land of Sensoji Temple was confiscated by the government, and Nakamise was also placed under the jurisdiction of Tokyo Prefecture, so it was rebuilt into a brick building. It was destroyed by the Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923, became a reinforced concrete building in 1925, and was burned down in the Great Tokyo Air Raid in 1945, but has been repaired and inherited to date. From the Heisei era, you will be able to enjoy a refreshing view from Kaminarimon to Hozomon by improving the underground wiring.
